Botanical Name: Serenoa repens
General Information: Saw palmetto
grows extensively in Florida, particularly South Florida,
although it can be found as well in other southern
states.
Medicinal Uses: Saw palmetto has
long been used in Europe, and to a lesser extent,
the US, so shrink the prostate and reduce symptoms
of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Some studies
show that it is effective, others (see below) less
so.
