As the name implies, this diet is all about the soup. Cabbage soup, that is. The premise of this diet is simple: for seven days, you can eat all the cabbage soup you want, as well as select foods on certain days (see cabbage soup recipe and foods list below).

Adherents of this diet claim that those who follow it can lose seven to ten pounds in a week, but it is a far cry from a healthy way to go about losing weight, and should be undertaken sparingly. As with any other diet, definitely check with your doctor before trying this.

Cabbage Soup Recipe

You can eat as much of this as you want. Feel free to change the vegetables and spices used to “mix it up” a bit and blunt the boredom of “soup again?”

Ingredients:

·	6 large green onions, sliced
·	2 green peppers, chopped
·	1 or 2 cans of tomatoes (diced or whole)
·	3 Carrots, peeled and chopped
·	1 cup Mushrooms, canned or fresh, sliced
·	1 bunch of celery, chopped
·	half a head of cabbage, chopped
·	1 package Lipton soup mix
·	1 or 2 cubes of bouillon
·	1 48oz can V8 juice
·	8 cups water
·	Season to taste with salt, pepper, parsley, curry, garlic powder, etc.

Directions:

Sauté all vegetables in a little olive oil or cooking spray until the green onions wilt. Add the rest of the ingredients and simmer an hour to two hours, or until all vegetables are tender. Adjust the seasonings and serve.

Additional Foods List

In addition to all the soup you can eat, you can add the following foods (on their specific days) to the menu. You should make sure to eat the cabbage soup as well at least once a day:

Day 1

-eat all the fruits you want, except bananas.
-drink unsweetened teas, black coffee, cranberry juice and water.

Day 2

-eat all the fresh vegetables you want. They can be raw or cooked. Stay away from dry beans, peas and sweet corn.
-today’s special: enjoy a baked potato with butter for dinner.

Day 3

-combine days 1 and 2, but omit the baked potato.

Day 4

-here’s where your bananas, skipped on day 1, come in. Eat as many as eight bananas and drink as many glasses of skim milk as you want. This day is supposed to lessen your desire for sweets.

Day 5

-Meat! You can have 10-20 ounces of beef today, or up to six fresh tomatoes, if you prefer. You can also substitute baked or broiled (and skinless) chicken for the beef, or broiled fish, if you prefer. Drink at least 6-8 cups of water on this day to wash the uric acid from your system.

Day 6

-Another meat day, this time in the form of beef (2-3 steaks, if you wish) with fresh vegetables (not baked potato).

Day 7

-all you can eat of brown rice, vegetables, and unsweetened fruit juices.
