World's Sexiest Vegetarians

Vegetarianism can make you healthy, but can it also make you sexy? I’ve hung out in enough health food stores to know that this isn’t always the case, but there are a lot of sexy vegetarians out there. A lot of famous sexy vegetarians. And leave it to PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) to try and find out which ones are the sexiest through their annual “World’s Sexiest Vegetarians” poll, now in its fifth (2005) year.

Known more for activities such as fur coat painting and milk mustache mocking, every year PETA likes to lets its vegan hair down a bit, have a little fun and also point out some of the plusses of vegetarianism… namely, the famous, beautiful, rich and sexy people who are doing it. They offer quite an extensive list of celebrities to choose from on their site, including Avril Lavigne, Andre 3000, Prince, David Duchovny, Reese Witherspoon, Shania Twain… well, you get the idea. The celebrity world is filled with flesh free folk.

So who won this year’s poll? The envelope please… This year for the men: Chris Martin. The lead singer for the popular group Coldplay is also well known for being Mr. Gweneth Paltrow, another vegan. Which makes it kind of strange that they named their recently born daughter Lambchop (OK, I kid… their daughter is actually named a very vegetarian-friendly Apple).

And on the women’s side? (insert sound of rustling envelope) Carrie Underwood, a country singer who first became “known” through American Idol (where she wore a “V is for Vegetarian” T-shirt). I wonder if Paula Abdul finds that sexy?

Anyhow, over 13,000 people participated in the poll. You can find all the celebrities who “took part” on PETA’s official Website (http://www.peta.org).
