Fenugreek Shown To Help in Weight Loss
Sep 24th, 2009 | By admin | Category: Alternative Medicine, Featured, Fenugreek, Herbs, Weight LossA new study appearing in the journal Phytotherapy Research points to the herb fenugreek as an effective weight loss aid.
Researchers from the University of Minnesota and supplement manufacturer Frutaron found that a component in fenugreek extract called galactomannan (take that superhero moniker off the table) was able to help study participants feel more full, which is often a key element in a successful weight loss program.
The study included 18 obese individuals who were assigned to receive either 4 to 8 grams of the fenugreek extract or a placebo stirred into a beverage that accompanied a standardized breakfast. Participants were asked to rate their feelings of hunger, satiety, fullness, and prospective food intake every 30 minutes for 3.5 hours after breakfast. Although neither the placebo nor the 4 gram dose resulted in any significant difference in any of the factors, the 8 gram dose caused a statistically significant increase in fullness and satiety. Therefore this dose may be the most effective for individuals who want to include the supplement as part of their weight loss efforts.
This isn’t the first time fenugreek has shown up on the “healthier than thought” circuit. Past research has suggested that it can help any number of conditions and disorders, including diabetes, inflammation, the inducement of breast milk, menopause symptoms and digestive ailments.

I wonder if Fenugreek would help menopausal night sweats? Unfortunately night sweats and hot flashes are one of the most common menopausal symptoms. For helpful hints to combat night sweats go to Help For Night Sweats. The tips have been a real lifesaver for many of my clients.
I went to buy fenugreek from Holland and Barrett today and looked in their “pill bible” only to learn that this was used for people who need to gain weight, no mention of weight loss !! Now I am really confused!!!
I would love a reply?
