Dec 9th, 2009 | By admin | Category: Featured, Herbs, Yohimbe

Yohimbe is a chief source of the drug Yohimbe (Procomil), which is valuable for both its stimulant and aphrodisiac qualities. You’ll see this on sale on the Internet quite a bit, generally for one reason: it is touted as an aide in treating erectile dysfunction.

Common Name(s): Yohimbe, Rauwolscine
Latin name: Pausinystalia yohimbe

Description: In addition to yohimbe, yohimbine can be found as in other herbs such as Indian Snakeroot (Rauwolfia serpentina).

Therapeutic Uses: Used to treat erectile disfunction, as a dietary supplement, and has been shown to help in the recall of traumatic memories in those suffering from PTSD. It also has been used for a variety of other conditions, including lessing the sexual side effects of some antidepressants and as a blood pressure boosting agent.

Additional Notes: People taking yohimbine have suffered from numerous and significant side effects, icluding anxiety, insomnia, headache, dizziness, overstimulation, high blood pressure, etc. In extreme cases, those taking yohimbine have experienced seizures and renal failure. Yohimbine should not be consumed by anyone with liver, kidney, heart disease, or a psychological disorder.

The gap between an effective dose and a dangerous one is pretty narrow, so care should be taken when taking this drug. As with all medications, consult your doctor before taking this.
