Transcendental Meditation

Probably one of the most well-known methods of meditation thanks to the Beatles and other celebrities who embraced it in the 60's and 70's, transcendental meditation (TM) was originated in the 1950's by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. It's basic premise is that you use a mantra (i.e. a special word) that becomes the focus of your meditation.

TM: Not Just For Stress Reduction Anymore
Much research has been done over the past couple of decades showing that transcendental meditation, or TM, can be an effective method for reducing stress, but a recent study that appeared in the American Journal of Cardiology shows that it can also help adults with high blood pressure live longer.
