NHS Backs Nintendo Wii Fit Plus

How cool is this: the UK’s NHS has decided to bestow its coveted Change4Life logo on the Nintendo Wii Fit Plus.

This will be a big boon to the next generation Nintendo Wii Fit, which goes on sale this Friday (10/30/09). Nintendo will be able to use the Change4Life logo in its Wii Fit advertising, making it the first gaming system to get the backing of a major government health department. This is also a big change for the Change4Life program, which is still knocking video games (although not specifically Nintendo) on its site:

These days, ‘modern life’ can mean that we’re a lot less active. With so many opportunities to watch TV or play computer games, and with so much convenience and fast food available, we don’t move about as much, or eat as well as we used to. Which means that 9 out of 10 kids today could grow up with dangerous amounts of fat in their bodies. This can cause life-threatening diseases like cancer, type 2 diabetes and heart disease – so it’s really important that we do something about it.
