Jun 27th, 2008 | By admin | Category: Diet & Nutrition

A massive research project funded by the European Union and involving 38 institutions located across 16 countries is currently trying to prove that poor nutrition in the womb and during the first few months of life can lead to a variety of diseases in adulthood, including diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease.

The project, called EARNEST (Early Nutrition Programming – Long-term Follow-up of Efficacy and Safety Trials and Integrated Epidemiological, Genetic, Animal, Consumer and Economic Research… I guess ENPLTFUOEASTAIEGACAER was taken) involves researchers from the fields of genetics, molecular biology, epidemiologist, public health and consumer behavior.

These ongoing studies essentially involve the manipulation of the diets of pregnant and lactating women to try and determine the optimum one to assure the child’s future health.
