Viniyoga

Based on a Sanskrit word meaning differentiation or adaptation, it should come as no surprise that viniyoga is the DIY of yoga. Viniyoga is based on the teachings of T. Kristnamacharya and T.K.V. Desikachar and is a very individualized yoga. Breathing is combined with asanas that are modified to fit the needs, interests and abilities of individual practitioners, with the goal all the while being a balance of body, breath and mind. This is truly yoga bending to you, as opposed to the other way around (no pun intended... no, really).

American Viniyoga Institute - AVI began sharing the teachings of yoga and yoga therapy as Maui Yoga Therapy in 1983. It has since then grown into an international community of yoga professional educated by Gary Kraftsow in the spirit of Viniyoga, and inspired by the teachings of T.K.V. Desikachar and T. Krishnamacharya. AVI shares these teachings in a rich array of professional training programs, educational and experiential seminars and retreats in the fields of health and fitness, therapy and self-care, and personal transformation.

What is Viniyoga? - This site offers a more detailed introduction to and history of viniyoga.
